Exploration Two: “We Are Forward Thinking”
Dates: March 5, 2021 – May 31, 2021
Where: The installation will be on display along the path outside City Hall and inside MARTA bus shelters along the two main MARTA routes in Roswell
The second characteristic photographers were invited to explore was “We Are Forward Thinking”.
“Intentional , inclusive, blended, charming, verdant, illustrious. Telling our story through artwork paints a picture that is lively, vivacious, leafy, and lush. If our city is a canvas for art, our history, physical surroundings, and the spirit of our people are the palette.“ – Public Art Master Plan, Roswell Arts Fund and the City of Roswell, 2017.
The current pandemic has momentarily closed the doors for many traditional spaces dedicated to art but the desire for connection and creative experiences is thriving. Roswell has a wealth of nontraditional outdoor spaces to explore and there is an opportunity to curate unique and unexpected experiences for neighborhoods throughout the city.
Roswell Arts Fund, in partnership with the Hagan Family Foundation, Getty Images and the City of the Roswell saw an opportunity to curate unique and unexpected experiences for neighborhoods throughout the city. Additionally, to support our artists all images shown in the exhibit are available to purchase and 70% of every sale will go directly to the artist!
Roswell in Print will have three distinct installations in different outdoor locations that allow for safe and socially distanced experiences. Each exploration will take inspiration from the characteristics that define the community of Roswell, GA: Modern Spirit, Southern Soul. Through an extensive public engagement process, we have come to understand that spirit by asking the people of Roswell who they are and what is important to their community. The unique elements that emerged from those conversations became the themes at the core of this photography exhibition.
In each exhibit, the visual storytellers featured will span countries and generations. We hope that these photographs, inspired by Roswell’s essence, will convey a universal message of belonging, a welcoming sense of community that travels beyond our city limits and resonates with viewers near and far.
Special companion piece “Warrior Within” by Feel Beautiful Today
Alongside “We Are Forward Thinking”, Roswell Arts Fund is honored to welcome Feel Beautiful Today’s exhibit “The Warrior Within” consisting of meaningful portraits highlighting cancer patients and their stories along their cancer journey.
Founded in 2010, Feel Beautiful Today (FBT) exists to help transform oncology patients’ journeys by encouraging their thoughts toward a more positive and healing perspective through creative art experiences.

An Outdoor, Socially-Distanced Live Concert
After a series of indie record releases, Shawn Mullins’ critical breakthrough came when 1998 Soul’s Core album shot him to fame on the strength of its Grammy-nominated No. 1 hit, “Lullaby” followed by AAA/Americana No. 1 “Beautiful Wreck” from 2006’s 9th Ward Pickin’ Parlor. His song, “Shimmer” was used in promotion of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and was included on the Dawson’s Creek soundtrack. He co-wrote “All in My Head” which was featured in episode one of the hit TV sitcom “Scrubs.” Mullins also co-wrote the Zac Brown Band’s No. 1 country tune “Toes.” In early 2002, he formed super group The Thorns with Matthew Sweet and Peter Droge. Mullins’ most recent album My Stupid Heart was released in 2015, the theme of which, Mullins says, can be summed up most succinctly by the song title, “It All Comes Down To Love,” the guiding force behind just about every song on the album.
For the 20th anniversary of Soul’s Core, Shawn is revisiting the music by recording two new versions of the album. He is calling this Soul’s Core Revival. This is not a remix or a remaster of the original, but rather brand new recordings with new arrangements of the songs – one album will be new stripped down solo performances, some on guitar, some on piano and maybe one a cappella and the second will be a new studio recording with his full band, Soul Carnival.

Second & Fourth Saturdays of the Month, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Free to the public; house tour ticket not required
Please check the events calendar for possible changes to this schedule.
Cook House may only accommodate up to approximately 8 people at a time and while supplies last. Children under the age of 6 require strict supervision.
Living history interpreter Clarissa Clifton demonstrates open-hearth cooking using traditional 19th century southern recipes. Sensing how lengthy this process can be, visitors are welcome to drop-in at any point then go enjoy the grounds and exhibits, take a ticketed house tour, and then pop back into the kitchen to see the results. From baking without an oven to cooking vegetables and meat over a fire, recipes and presentation will change seasonally but there is always something delicious to smell and good conversation. Please note that this is for educational demonstration purposes only. Visitors are not encouraged to participate or taste food for safety precautions.
Clarissa Clifton is a long-term living history interpreter and open-hearth cooking expert. She shares and cooks seasonal recipes, often inspired by what’s growing in the Smith garden, walking visitors through the methods of cooking over an open fire with use of traditional cast iron cookware and tools.

Event Details
Daniel is a North Carolina singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose passion and enthusiasm are evident every time he takes the stage. Daniel describes his sound as “Rock n Roll” but it’s much broader than that… Josh is able to mold his influences in to a unique sound that is entirely his own.
Blending rock n roll with bluegrass, funk and soul music with a reggae backbeat, you never know which way he will lead the crowd. By the tender age of 19 Daniel had a full length CD of original music under his belt and performed hundreds of live shows. Since then he has released a catalog of music with his critically acclaimed band The New Familiars that includes several EPs, a full length CD, a live effort and a 45 single with a wonderful cover of the classic soul song “My Girl”.
Raised on the vinyl of the 1970’s where Soul and Rock n Roll played equal parts, Josh’s repertoire is stunning, and estimates he knows “a couple hundred” songs along with countless original compositions which range from complex bluegrass instrumentals to full blown pop classics.
Josh has performed at many national events (MerleFest, FloydFest, Bristol Rhythm & Roots) and along the way has had the privilege of sharing the stage with some legendary musicians like his friend John Cowan (Doobie Brothers) as well as some monsters of bluegrass (Sam Bush, Ronnie Mccoury, Danny Barnes, Mike Marshall).
