The initiative is a partnership between the city and Roswell Arts Fund, and kicks off with an opening party at noon Saturday, April 16.
April marks the official beginning of ArtAround Roswell, the city’s first sculpture tour.
The tour will feature 10 established works of art on display in select city of Roswell parks through December 2016. The initiative is a partnership between the city and the Roswell Arts Fund, and will include a variety of special events throughout the year.
To celebrate, the community is invited to an opening party from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Roswell Area Park.
This free event will feature interactive tents, crafts, food trucks and fun activities for the whole family and will also highlight the sculpture Oak Leaf Triptych by Jim Gallucci.
“We’re very excited about the opportunity to show off beautiful artwork in our parks and spark a conversation about public art in our city,” said Katherine Jones, cultural services manager of Roswell’s Recreation, Parks and Historic and Cultural Affairs Department. “Not only are these sculptures all fun and exciting, but they’re a great way to get people talking about the impact that art can have on our daily lives.”
The tour will feature monthly selfie contests on social media, a scavenger hunt game and events and community celebrations throughout the year highlighting the different sculptures.
Information about the 10 works of art can be found on informational stands situated next to each sculpture. Community members are encouraged to share their experiences with the sculpture tour online using the #ArtAroundRoswell and #WhenInRoswell hashtags.
The sculptures are on loan to the city for ArtAround Roswell. At the end of the tour, the Roswell Arts Fund will purchase one of the sculptures to have on permanent display at one of the city’s parks.
There are still opportunities to sponsor a sculpture, and interested individuals and businesses are invited to email firstname.lastname@example.org for details. For more information, including details about each sculpture and the monthly selfie contests, visit www.ArtAroundRoswell.org.
